Default Just bught an 03 A6 tiptronic. What are the limitations WHP on the trans?

Like the topic says. I am going to consider replacing the turbos in the future as it has 79k on the odo. I am wondering what the limitations on the Auto-manual transmssion is, what modifications could be done to make it reliable.

Also just for fun... what complications would come about from a manual swap, money wise, etc.

Thanks

I suppose I'd like 350 Horse or so. Is there a heavy duty torque converter available?

Just because you have "79K on the odo" doesn't mean your turbos are getting ready to go bad.

We have 188K on our original turbos. Granted, it is driven by a "little old lady."

Back to your question:

Your are correct in your concerns about how much power the TIP transmission will reliably handle. I just do not know.... I suspect it isn't much above the stock set up. :-(

I saw on here a guy that was running a 13 second 1/4 with a tip. That has to be at least around 375 hp.

I've heard that a stock box can't reliably handle much more than a car with K03's and a 91/93 chip tune. The owner of the indy shop that I go to told me, having owned one, that the torque converter is the weakest component. A tip chip program along with a valve mod will give you a little more. Of course, coolers will help with reliability. All the way means a completely built box with stronger internals and clutch material. I'll bet it varies from shop to shop what their boxes can handle. If you need some sites, let me know. Swapping to a manual would be harder than selling the car and finding a 6-speed, as hard as they are to find.

Sorry it's been a while. The two places that I've heard of are IPT and 517. Google them and you'll get to where you need to go. I've looked at IPT and they have torque converters, rebuild kits or entire built boxes.
