Just cleared my headlights...woo hoo!!
Just cleared the headlights on my 2001 A6 4.2.
At first I bought a New Lite kit from mdwholesale.com. Except for one bit of advice they gave me in their instructions (using sandpaper), it turned out to be overpriced and inadequate compared to the method below.
Depending on how bad your lights are you may be able to skip the first step. My headlights were extremely yellow.
What you need:
semi optional: 2000 wet/dry sandpaper (1000 or 1500 also if you have really extreme build up)
a 3 step plastic cleaner (heavy, fine, polish). I used Novus brand that I bought from TAP plastic.
2 Lint free cloths
2 terry cloth rags
Total cost about $16.
1. If your headlights have heavy build up (yellowing or haze) start with the 2000 sandpaper WET. Keeping the sandpaper wet at all times, sand the headlights, especially in the places where the build up is the worse. If you don't have a lot of build up, you can probably skip this step. If you have really extreme build up, you can start with a 1000 or 1500 sandpaper, then move to a 2000.
2. The headlights will now have a light haze. This will be removed when you use the Novus 3 Heavy Scratch Remover. Apply the solution just if you were waxing your car using one cloth to apply, and one to wipe off the solution. Occasionally, I used a wet terry cloth rag to clean off dried solution. Make sure that you dry the headlights thoroughly before using the Novus again.
You may need to repeat step 1 in areas where you still have build up that is too heavy for the Novus 3. (note: if you are nervous about using sandpaper in step 1, you can just go straight to the Novus 3, but it will take a lot longer to clear the build up).
3. At this point, your headlights should be clear. Use the Novus 2, then the Novus 1 to polish the lights up.

Here are before and after pics...(sorry, can&\\;rsquo\\;t figure out exactly hot to get the image to display and the delete function doesn&\\;rsquo\\;t appear to work correctly...not to mention not being able to get the apostrophe not to read as code)
