K&N filter and MAF
Several threads suggest the filter may damage MAF due to the oil in the filter. But the K&N's office response states (1) such claim is flawed (2) the oil is the integral part of the K&N's technology. http://www.knfilters.com/MAF/massair.htm
Any idea whether to use the K&N?
Also do you really re-use the K&N?

Over oiled K&N WILL mess with your MAF. It worked great on my old Honda with MAP. I have it on my A6, but I make sure I under oil the filter everytime I clean it. FYI, if my car wasn't chipped, I probably would not use it on my car.
I say this every time, but do an oil analysis before and after the switch to the K&N filter. They let in a lot more dirt. I never kept mine in long enough to have to clean and re-oil. After seeing the oil analysis results I threw it away.

They are a great way to detect problems with your engine. ie coolant in the oil, fuel in the oil, excess silica(dirt)..... I change my oil at 5k with synthetic because that is about when the oil begins to break down.

What AIR has to do with OIL?
The last time I recall, combustion is provided by an AIR-FUEL(GAS) mixture. Dirt in oil doesn't come from the ...air filter. Would you be kind enough to explain how an oil analysis is related to the air filter?
Thanks.
