How do I know if I have the "large brake package" as stated on many wheel fitment sites. I know mine are single pads in the front.

 

looking a the calipers it should be obvious if they are or not. Mine barely fit in the stock 16" rims and completely encompass the rear portion of the rotor ie they couldn't possibly be any bigger and still fit

 

Single pad is the standard, not the large brake. The large brake package comes with 2 piston design with has 4 total pads per caliper instead of 2 total.

 

As far as I remember the sinle piston brakes were called "Ate" type;
The Multipistons - "Girling" /Lucas.

2003 A6 has Ate, 321mm rotors

Big brakes - on S8 are:
323x30 Rotors - Lucas - 4 pads per wheel
345x30 Rotors - Ate - 2 pads per wheel\

The easiest way to figure out what is the config on your car is to call dealers with your VIN.
