I am looking to lower my 2002 A6 2.7T.Does anyone have or know of a set-up that is relatively inexpensive?

 

How much is inexpensive? How low do you want to go? And how important is ride quality to you? There are multiple setups out there for 2.7Ts the most pupular being H&R Springs with Koni Sport (yellow) shocks, although some people complain that it's a harsh ride.

 

I have put 18x8.5 RS6 Rims w/ 235-40-18 Continental Extreme Contacts on the car and am looking to reduce the gap betwwen the tire and the fender. I am still looking for some what of a comfortable ride.

 

I used Eibach Pro springs and Koni sport shocks (not the adjustable ones) and I lowered mine 1.4" in the front and 1.3" in the back. I have the RS6 18's as well and its made all the difference in the world...looks and ride. Its not too rough at all but stiff enough to where your not floating around. Now the sway in corners still isn't to my liking but I will need new sway bars for that. The springs were around $300 and the shocks around $500...all in all I paid around $1200 (installation and all). If your shocks aren't too old you *may* not have to change them...but personally I would. I ahve the setup mentioned way above, H&S springs and Koni Yellows. Awesome look, great handling but much harsher.
My friend with the same car has the same koni yellow but iwth Eibach springs, MUCH better ride and about .3 inches higher than mine, I would recommend his set up having driven both.
Springs are about 250/set, shocks 130-150 each. Labor varies.

if you ahve $, get H&R coil overs.

 

I'm getting ready to purchase some Vogtland Coilovers for my 00 A6 2.7T. They are nice!

Be advised that coilovers are going to have the harshest ride of all of them. Just be prepared to feel EVERY bump in the road.

 

Do you already have the sport suspension or do you have the standard suspension? I ask because I have the sport suspension on my 03 2.7T and I can't imagine needing it any lower....it looks perfect just the way it is.

Just don't be a moron and try to cutyour stock springs or heat them up with a torch to get them to settle a bit....I knew of a guy who did that on his VW GTi and about 100 miles later when he hit a dip in the road at about 45mph his driver's side front spring fell off of the spring perch.

Needless to say....not a good situation. He was at the VW dealershipthe next day buyinga used set of stock springs from someone who upgraded to an aftermarket because he couldn't afford to do it right the first time. The end result was he spent just about as much on a second set of stock springs and labor than he would have if he would have just bought the aftermarket springs to begin with....and since his stock springs had been heated he couldn't even try to sell them to recoup some of the money.

 

I'm running H&R sports with bilstein's. 1.75 drop in the front and 1.5 in the rear on 19x8.5 all around. Ride is good but a little rough. I don't care though cause that's the look I had to have. Good luck.
