Default misfire

I get a check engine light.
Doing the OBD 2 test, it shows that I get P0300, P0304, P0306
300=multiple misfire
304=cylinder 4 misfire
306=cylinder 6 misfire.

What do I need to check first? I would like to fix this myself if possible. Spark plugs? some kind of wire?

Were you low on gas when the CEL came on? Sometimes when there is not enough gas in the tank, the engine will misfire on start-up. Happened to me and the CEL went out after filling up. Never came back. I tell the wife not to let the tank get down to "E".

strange.. suddenly the engine light went off.
Only thing I did to the car was recently changed the coolant. After a day the light came on. Yesterday I notiecd the coolant level was below MIN, so I filled it to MAX... few hours later, the light went off... anyone think this is related? And if so, why would it give misfire cyl 4 and 6 code?

Sometimes if the computer doesn't detect an error somewhere in the engine or the car after so many days or hours, the CEL will extinguish itself.

I'm having the same prob w/ my 99' 2.8 quatro. Have you checked your plug wires? You might consider swapping two plug wires to see if the misfire goes to a different cyllinder. Also, do both of those wires plug into the same coil pack? If so, you might consider swapping that too. I'm interested to see what you find. My misfire is on # 3 & 5, which are on separate coils. Mine is very intermittant so it takes time to see if changes have any effect.

My car still runs fine and is getting good mileage.
