I have an '01 A6 2.8 and I want faster acceleration of the line; any suggestions? I plan on getting a performance chip but i was wondering if there is a more effective way of getting that power, short of just dropping an RS6 engine in there.

 

Now now... Lets be realistic. First of all, you are not going to go get a RS6 engine in your car. (Good luck finding one in the first place, not to mention +$15K by the time you are done with it, if you have the ability to.)

So realistically speaking you can drop about $5K and get a PES G2 supercharger. It will get you about 100 horses at the crank. Othe option is to sell your car and get a 2.7T. Otherwise change oil frequently, put gas in and drive it as is.

Thanks man, I'm going to look into the PES G2 supercharger. A friend of mine just dropped 10k in to his neon srt and I refuse to go down with out a fight. his srt makes me look like I'm sitting still off the line. i noticed you put a speed tuning chip in yours; can you feel a significant difference in performance and where did you get yours?

 

There is no significant difference with the speedtuning chip. As a matter of fact, there is really no chip tuning for 2.8 that will give you a noticible gain. It just drives a little better around 80mph and up and give you a little better throttle response. Nothing else... The reason that I got it was that there was a groupbuy and I got it for really cheap. I wouldn't have paid full price for a chip in 2.8.

If your buddy's neon srt has $10K into it, your 2.8 will NEVER be able to keep up with him off the line. G2 will give you 100 hp at the crank but it is not much to accelerate almost 2 ton car. But if you are running against him at high speed (100+) you may have a chance. If you want my 2 cents, then just drive the car as is and save money for repairs. Because it WILL break down and it will not be cheap to fix it.

 

Or... sell your 2.8, add the 10K you would spend on a supercharger and buy an 04 2.7t with as low a mileage as possible, add $600 for a chip and you're good to go.
Sometimes you have to know when to cut your losses and do the right thing.

 

A 2.8 wont keep up with a SRT4, no way. Really, your best bet, is to find a 2.7T. There is an endless after market parts selection for that engine, and it has tons of potential. Chip gets ~310hp for $600, instead of $5000 to get 300 out of your 2.8. Find a manual transmission A6 2.7T, and put some money in it. K04s or bigger
Put that Dodge in its place!
