Have you checked for proper tire inflation?

You can sell your car.

A6s and A8s are geared for highway cruising.

am I reading this wrong? do you mean 5.9 mpg and not ( 59 mpg ), 6 mpg round town is very bad indeed and obviously something needs to be done and first thing is a full service then VAG it for codes

Nope, I wrote 59 mpg not 5.9.
It's an instantaneous index.
Earlier this index were equal to 12.8 mpg...

ok I see what you mean but indexing not used in the UK which kinda threw me off but never the less its a 2.7 V6 turbo Quattro and do like the gas and depends on how the traffic/weather/whats being used electricly ( all put a load on the engine ) so it depends and 12.8 sounds about right ish

I like to drive w/my instantaneous gas milage indicator showing. It ranges on the freeway from about 9.0 to 123 mpg depending on conditions.

on city streets, it ranges from 3.5 (take off from light if I am heavy on the gas pedal) to about 22+ (cruising at 25-35 mph).

you cannot guage what you are actually getting from that indicator though. a slight up or downhill will result in a huge variance in gas milage. If you have the average MPG, use that to see what you are getting. You can clear it before every leg of your trip to see what you get on freeway or city driving.

I average between 19.9 mpg and 22 mpg in combination driving. I like to go fast so I could probably get up to 24+ mpg if I drove slower.
