You might just want to take it to the dealer. I had the same problem and they got stuck in there becuase it wasn't the right key for it. It only costs 75 to get the code from the dealer.

I had a similar problem a while back. The car was purchased with the code missing. I wanted to get the code read out as well but I saw an offer over at ECS tuning for a symphoni II radio: http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-C5_A6-...ereo/ES365825/
and it's only $38. Not only did I get the code but also a way better working stereo. The base was deeper, the cassette player working properly and reading all CD's again even the scratched ones.

Exactly the one I posted - Symphony 2 and my a6 c5 4.2 has the Bose system.
Also bought a set of removal tools: first I bought a pair from Walmart and then realized, this thing is so huge I need 4, ordered a 2nd pair. Worked like a charm.

Congrats my fellow avant owner. That motor is pretty bullet proof as long as you change the oil and do routine maintenance. (Definition of "routine maintenance" is questionable. )

I have to admit, it is one of the most versatile car that I have ever owned. Good choice.

Well you said it's a Bose then it's a Bose. Symphony 1 and 2 are different types of radios. I have a Bose. What is the vin number of the car? so i can make sure what model it is?
