My 'New' 2001 A6 4.2. koni question- The mods have started
I wanted to share some pics of my 4.2. I found the car with 30K no Winter miles in near new condition.
So far the car has been great and I had a nice surprise when I was finishing up my 1st mod.
Low and behold I saw Yellow Konis and Eibach springs nestled below. I can't figure out how I missed them when I inspected the car...anyhow they are a welcome and unexpected addition.
So far I have removed the resonator and did the DIY through valence exhaust tip modification (thanks to the helpful A6 mod bible). Came out pretty sweet IMO :-) ....
I also pulled the MAF screen and had the 0032 reprogram taken care of. WOW 0032 makes a huge improvement, the whole car performs much much better...less AARP
and much more NOPI like.
OK I did the search and can't confirm. IS THERE A way to adjust the konis without haveing to pull them totally out of the car? I'm not sure if they have the adujtment **** on top, but if they don't is there a way to adjust them without having to pull the coils and all the other crap thats involved in what looks to be a pretty complex de-install.
The only remaining complaint I now have is the boat like ride...which if I were to guess the person that installed the konis has them set on full soft front rear. Wallow is an understatement...
As alternative anyone know of a reasonable shop in NJ that will do the koni adjustment??
Thanks and thanks for all the great information on this forum.[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Don't know much about potential modifications but reading your posting suggests thay you might. Where did you get your info, and can you provide me with some insight on mod's that are worth while. Just so you know, reading the mods you did was lilke reading greek. Perhaps I could ask you to dumb it for me.

Would you mind posting how you did the rear exhaust pipes? I hate how they are tucked behind that plastic piece. The only thing I don't like about my ride.

Hey fellow silver 2001 4.2er!
I'm a newbie too, and I can't follow your statement that you "also pulled the MAF screen and had the 0032 reprogram taken care of. WOW 0032 makes a huge improvement, the whole car performs much much better.
Is the 0032 something anyone can do, or is it a dealer tweak?
What tires are you running? I'm contemplating putting on 18" rims, and would LOVE to be running the newer 18" AVUS rims, but they have the wrong bolt pattern (5x112 versus our 5x100 - damn!)
I'd love to run pole positions for the summer, then Nokian's for the winter on my stock polished rims...time will tell...what are your thoughts for rims? Have you seen any hot ones?
Thanks for your reply....shoman
