hey guys im new to the boards here but ive been reading for quite some time. i just bought this car and i noticed my engine is very loud when i accelerate. now it wasnt always like this but i just noticed it recently. this is my first audi ive always beena nissan man so im not sure if this is normal. also the acceleration has been a little hesitant since ive heard the engine like this. thanks in advance for any response.

What kind of noise? If its a tapping noiseit's common on the 3.0 and as far as I know there isn't a cure. If it's a different noise like the engine straining, you might get your tranny looked at.

 

thanks for your response. Im not too certain its tranny but you will know more than I do seeing as how I have no experience with audi. The noise is like an exaggerated VROOM! when you are revving or going faster. no clicking. just a very loud VROOM when the engine is switching gears. i checked it out this morning and the car is still quick not as hesitant as i expressed in the previous post but still the loud VROOM.

 

changed air filter recently? could be bit clogged. does engine idle speed flutter or steady? could be grubby throttle body. more details needed,

 

mooosey you hit it on the head. the idle does go very high almost to 2 then down to 1.4 then works its way slowly down to the designated .8 mark on the rpm gauge. ill check out the air filter and throttle body. are there any DIY sites for the 3.0? all I see are sites for the 4.2 and 2.7, are they the same in terms of fixing em?

 

You could have an exhaust leak causing it to be a little louder and lose some power.
