Default New to A6 but not Audi...

So forgive my stupid questions.

I have heard conflicting information on this...Does the 4.2 have a timing belt?

Does anyone have a sound clip of removed resonators on stock V8 exhaust?

I'd like to add rear exiting exhaust tips, but my car has the hidden exhaust. Is this a big job for DIY?

Any help is greatly appreciated and I am very excited to use this site and get to know more Audi owners. TIA

Not so fast...the newer A6 4.2's (2005 and up) have CHAIN driven camshafts http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...t=timing+chain. Scroll down in that post to see some diagrams from the service manual. The engine has 4 chains in total. The chain driving the camshfts from the crank is located at the back (yes, BACK) of the engine between the block and transmission [sm=wtf.gif]making it a real treat to service.

I would be curious how often those chains need to be replaced - are the intervals that much better than the belts?

Speaking of which, I asked my local shop what they recommend for the timing belt and they said 90,000. They said it runs about $1000, so based upon what I've seen that seems like a fair price.

I looked in the book and it doesn't givea service interval but usually timing chains are up to 100% longer replacement interval than a belt. The other thing is usually beforea chain gives up you have some indication that there's an issue (chain rattling). When a belt goes it's gone and damn it's expensive!
