New front wheel bearings?
 

Just replaced both half axles on wfes A6Q because the boots split and she ran it until the cv joints ruined. Car was making a noise like a train (thump thump thump?) Worse when the front wheel was turned to the left. After replacing the half axles the noise is still there. Do I need new wheel bearings? How can you check for that, and if I need to replace them how hard is it to press out the old and press in the new? Is it spendy to have a machine shop press? Thanks in advance.

I doubt the front wheel bearings need to be replaced, if they aren't making noise the faster you go they shouldn't be bad. Take it back to the shop that did the repair and stick it to them saying that there is a noise after the repair was made and be anal about it because they are gonna play hardball but they will buckle sooner or later kinda like my service manager:(If you wanna replace the bearings you have to remove the tie rod end, remove the upper links from the steering arm, remove the large 17mm allan from the hub holding the axle in place then remove the hub from the vehicle, it should have a couple of bolts holding it in from the rear. Press it out as any normal bearing and install the new one by pressing it in, but i would have the shop do it for ya.
