Hey all! This is my first post, woot! Well I bought a '04 A6 a few months back and just rolled her over to 80k. I'm pretty new to the world of Audi and just and looking for some advice. Everything with car seems great. The only thing i noticed is on cold days (days below 40F) the car being cold will have a noticeable "ruff" shift from 1st to 2nd. But when its warm out or the car has warmed up, it does not seem to have a problem. Has anyone experienced this issue or have any thoughts on it? Also, as i said I'm new, what kind of maintenance should be planning and or doing? I don't have a lot of records on what was done from the previous owner. It definitely was taken car of and id like to keep it that way

Usually with tiptronic transmissions there is a delayed 1-2 shift when cold. And nomally this would happen the first time it shifted form 1 to 2 after cold startup. As for maintnence, search this site there is alot of good info. Is your car quattro or not? If not you might have a multitronic gearbox.

How cold is cold?

If you can stand it, give the car 5 minutes or so to move some fluids and warm up before you roll out. Also, avoid hard acceleration until your temps are up to snuff.

These few things should always be considered, but moreso in the colder months. Good luck!

Well I live in Georgia so not THAT cold, like is said id say mornings when its been below 35 or so. Yes, it is a tiptonic tranny as well. As far as maintenance Im pretty sure about getting the timing belt changed as I do not know if this has been done or not.

Also, I think im gonna get a quote on a proper ATF change (filter replace not just a flush). I see LOOOTS of threads on tranny issues here and its worrying me. She only has 80,500 or so I don't think a change would hurt and would smooth out some of the "roughness". Thoughts?

I really don't think that your description of "roughness" is really not roughness. When the first starts, the transmission control unit automatically changes the shift point higher to warm up the fluid faster. Obviously it is based on the fluid temperature, so when it is warm outside, you don't notice the high rpm upshift.

Anyways, tranny fluid and filter change at that mileage is a great idea. Either take it to a reputable shop or do it yourself. VAGcom and Bentley Manual are must for any newer Audi owners.
