Exclamation New rear rotor issue

A few days ago I replaced the rear rotors and pads on my 2004 A6 Sline 2.7T and since I now have a strange issue.

On braking, it feels like there the rears are pumping (grabbing then releasing quickly) for lack of a better term, but there is no unusual sounds and the rotors look like their getting even wear over the surface.

Is it possible I have a warped NEW rotor(s), or does it take time for the pads and rotors to wear to each other, or is there something else I should be looking into?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, warped new rotors are possible. I bought a set and had the exact same issue. I took the original rotors and had them turned and put them back on.

Once again, stay away from the cheap made in China rotors. They are crap!

Thanks for the info Bob,

I bought the kit from Blauparts.com that came recommended via this forum - are their rotors from China? They look well made and sturdy.

Still have to tear down the back and see what's going on (warped rotors or ?) but it's starting to look like there may have been a manufacturing defect on the new set.

Angry Solved

Well Bob was right... the rotors from Blauparts are defective and I measured a runout of 1 - 1.5mm on both rotors!!!!!

If this is the quality of the products they sell, I'm glad I didn't get a timing belt kit from them (probably would have blown up my motor)! Too bad, it looked like quality stuff but turned out to be cheap Asian parts with a nice paint job.

Hopefully they will refund my money but if not, AmEx will. Now the big question... can anyone recommend top quality rotors or is OEM from Audi the best way to go.

Look for:

Rock Auto - they have the most comprehensive list of parts.

Rear rotors are dirt cheap. Zimmerman or Brembo are both good. I actually have centric rotors on the rear on mine. You can get them pretty much anywhere locally and they have been really good. They even came with pre-finished surface unlike others. Good thing about getting rotors locally is that you can always exchange them.

For solid rotors, I also recommend Centric. Check either Rock Auto or Brakeworld -- both have pretty good prices. I put a set of rear Centric on my car at 101k and just replaced them and the pads at 181k.
