Default Newbie... What year A6 is good/bad?

Hi, I'm about to dive into the AUDI world from the SAAB world. I want to buy an A6 on a fairly limited budget. I'm looking at 2000-2004 A6 with 2.7. Is ther any year that is better or worse than another? Should I stay clear of the 2.7? What is the critical mileage number and what major work needs to be done (Timing belt/chain)? Realistically, what is the mileage it will last till (my SAAB 9-5 is hovering at 200K and my 9-3 is at 145K and still humming)? Thanks for the help, John

As far as the year goes, Audi made some changes to the car between the 01' and 02 model years. Mechanically the oil lines to the turbo's were changed to a larger diameter and the F-hose was eliminated. Cosmetically the cars are considered pre-facelift and post-facelift, which includes the exhaust tips being exposed in the later years among a few other things.

To see a model guide for each year go to http://www.audiworld.com/model/and research the differences.
