no remote chirp!

no remote chirp!
I've just posted about my remote key being intermittent. Having this issue happen has made me wonder why my 2002 A6 does not give an audible chirp when you unlock or lock the doors. On my last car, I always subconsciously used this as a confirmation that the car had locked. Is this a common thing with Audis? Am I stuck with no chirp? Is there some way to switch chirping on?

RE: no remote chirp!
It should chirp when you lock the car, there are two possiblities.
1. your car is in transport mode which is un-likely cause its an 02.
2. The horn that makes the chirping has taken a crap, or the fuse is blown.

RE: no remote chirp!
The point of the chirp is to let you know EVERYTHING is locked and secure. What might be a possibility is that something is open, weather it be the trunk/hood/sunroof/window or even a door. I believe the gas door is even under this catagory. Go through the car and make sure everything is shut all the way, if that doesnt work, your horn might be out as someone stated earlier. Hope this helps...

I don't know if a 99 chirps but I would assume they all do. I know you can enable or disable it via a vag-com. I used to have it turned off until one day I realized not all my doors had locked. Now I leave it turned on, so if a door doesn't lock, I know right away.

RE: no remote chirp!
Our 2000 A6 2.8 Quattro didn't lock the doors automatically when you drive off and it didn't make the chirp sound when you locked it. We had the central locking reprogrammed by the local Audi dealer free of charge and now the car locks above about 10km/h and makes a sound when it is locked.
