OBD port not functioning
Took my 96 a6 wagon in for inspection, here in NY they just plug into the data port. They plugged in their obd scanner and got no data from the car.
I had the car vag comed a year ago for a cel and there was no trouble at all. Since then it has never been used again.
The tech at the shop tested all the fuses and everything was fine. The data port is in the center console behind the cig lighter.
Is this a common problem? Anybody have any advice?
Thanks.

thanks for the reply, dankhound. I have the stock radio, but I had to do some wiring repairs to bring things back to stock. There was an aftermarket system in the car and I am bringing it back to stock. I only worked on speaker wiring nothing else.
Does the center console come out?
Is there any way to test the data port, with like a probe or something like that?
My inspection is up on monday so i'm in a bind.

thanks avant, i am trying to get in touch with somebody in my area with a vag com. I used the vag com locator and sent the guy a e mail. hopefully it is their scanner, but it would be strange since it is for the nys vehicle inspections. if i have to bring it to a shop i will pass on your info.
