Default Oil

I know this topic has been discussed extensively, but I wanted to post this article. After a brief argument about oil, my buddy sent me the link. I found it very interesting and after planning to change my oil using Mobil 1 5W-30 this weekend, I might be giving Royal Purple a shot. Any thoughts, opinions or experiences?

Love RP. The car likes Amsoil better. Can't go wrong with either.

Oh dear GAWD!! Check my post history in 2 threads about "check engine light/should she be junked?" and "anyone know what these codes mean". I had an issue with a CEL on an A6,2002 with 36K miles on her. My audi dealer insinuated I damaged my engine because I used Royal Purple and it had too many detergents. Whatever. I had given her 5 oil changes, once a year, not by mileage. A lot of folks on here also said it was because I didn't change the oil engine, but my engine is CLEAN.
Long story short,Audi techstold me I needed both cam adjusters replaced for $3500-4300. I took it to an independant mechanic, and after a week, he tracked it down to a bad sensor and a new timing belt tensioner (for $995). He said BS on the RP being bad for your car, and after I lost complete confidence in audi mechanic/thieves, I will take his word over those quacks that said I broke my engine. Fucktards. [:@]

Believe me - I read that thread! I actually referenced the whole "excess detergents in RP can mess upyour engine" idea to my friend who foundit preposterous. That was actually why he sent me the article.

Funny! That's why I hate taking my car in. They take one look at a woman, and without so much as dinner or a drink, they proceed to bend me right over.

Currently using amsoil 5w40....prolly gonna switch to Castrol syntech. I've heard mixed things about RP. A recent test in Austrailia had it as one of the best oils on the market though- better than Mobile1.
