Default oil change

Hopefully this is an easy question to answer. Are oil changes easy to do for a audi virgin or does it need to be taken in? Do you need a special wrench for the filter and where is it located. Do you have to use synthetic oil? I greatly appreciate any help.

Not really that bad. just takes some time. There are a few fasteners holding the pan on under the car, remove those. Which engine do you have, which year? My 01 2.8 is easy, the filter is right there next to the oil pan. Mine is just a standard filter. And yea, synthetic oil. You need somthing with VWs rating on it, 501, 502, 503. 503 is the most current. An examlple would be Mobil 1 0W40.

Synthetic oil is a must, other than that it's basically just a normal oil change. Just make sure you're not messing with the transmission plug (some people have drained their tranny fluid with terrible results). I can't remember about the filter (it's been a while haha), but it definitely wasn't hard.

Sorry for not giving the year and model. Its an 2002 A6 with the 4.2 V8. Thanks for the quick reply. How about the brand of oil filter I ordered a NAPA brand for $30, does that sound about right. Also in the manual it says to use 0W-30 is that for negative temps or can I use 5W-30. Thanks again for the help.

Thanks for the info. I know they may seem like easy questions but I just wanted to make sure that I do everything right.

I would say return the napa filter and get a Mann or Mahle. These ar ethe oem filters, if not then a wix filter. Castrol Syntec is also a good oil choice , it meats all the VW requirements.

Yeah, I use Mobile 1 Full Synthetic 10w-40 because of the cold weather I'm in. Mobile 1 has always been an excellent brand. And i second getting a Mann filter (i get mine from the Audi dealership for cheap, so meh).

Full Synthetic all the way. I use Mobile one Extended Performance 5W-30 oil and filter. I have the 2.7 and it takes almost 7quarts. It's pretty easy. It takes about as long to take the pan off the bottom as it does to change the oil itself. You shouldn't have any problems at all. Good Luck
