Default oil changes

I took my A6 in for its 60,000 oil change and the technician told me that I had a lot of sludge build up in the engine. I've been reading that synthetic oils are better for some Audi engines, but it sounds like 2.8L V6 is fine with non-synthetic. Is this sludge thing for real? Any thoughts. I don't mind paying for the more expensive oil, but not if its a waste of money.

you pay about 50 bucks an oil change at a dealer but you only get it changed every 8,000 miles
at lube pros or wherever you pay about 30 to get it changed every 3,000
3,000x3=9,000=60 bucks
8,000x1=8,000=50 bucks
basically the same price!!! and its better oil

The "sludge thing" is for real, but ONLY on pre-2005 A4 1.8T. All A4 1.8T should use synthetic oil only. All 2005 and newer Audi's use only synthetic oil as per Audi. Your car doesn't need sythetic oil, but it won't hurt it (just your wallet). oh, and your car has a SERVICE REMINDER INDICATOR for a reason. When your car tells you SERVICE take it in, the indictor adapts to your driving and determines when you need maintence service. If you still have 5,000 of the originally configured 10,000 miles left on your service, you're going to burn up your warranty quicker than if you were to take your car in when you have 500 miles left until your next service.
