Default Oil Question newbie question

I use to drive a 1991 Mercedes S Class and i would have my car's oil changed every 3500 miles but now i own my 01' A6 and found out that the pervious owner changed the oil like once or twice the car has around 50K on it. Anyways my question is that how often do u guys change your oil or let you oil be changed? and What type or kind of oil do u guys use? The guy at my dealer told me that these cars are not like my 91' mercedes and the oil doesnt have to be changed every 3000-3500K miles

If you have the 2.7T, the owners manual says to change the oil every 5000 miles. Use 0W-30 synthetic oil. My buddy is a mechanic, and says it is better to overchange the oil because of all the heat these engines generate.

once u go synthetic, u cant use regular oil. i wouldnt even think about putting regular engine oil into our engines, they are too high end to play with minor things like that. keep ur oil consistant..

Castrol synthetic is not a reall synthetic base stock, Mobil 1 is far superior
and they do make a 5w-40. you can find it at Walmart.
but I would still recomend the 0w-40 its made for the German cars.
if yu have the money use Redline oil.
adding a quart of dino oil if your car is low will cause
no problems other than it will reduce the efects of
the synthetic base. I have worked for 2 different oil
comp.

Hi- My 2 cents -

Run MOBIL 1 all the way - don't look back - everything else is crap. I have a 2.7T with lots of upgrades - Change oil every 3000 - if not sooner - HEY !! Oil is CHEAP insurance. Let me say that again... OIL IS CHEAP INSURANCE - so what if MOBIL 1 is $40 or whatever - CHEAP INSURANCE !!!

My 2 cents
