Default old A6 to newer A6

Hello all. I am on my 5th Audi- for last 5 years have had 1995 A6 1984cc auto 155,000 miles (ex company car). Still going well but time for something newer. I lke smoothness, good torque, 90mph relaxed cruising on Mways. Haven't driven either, but thinking of A6 2.5 tdi auto or petrol A6 2.4 auto. I do abt 12,000 pa. What are the pros and cons 2.5 diesel v 2.4 petrol? Any tweaks to either to increase response, save fuel etc? Regards, Mike.

I think you're lucky to be on the side of the pond that gives you a diesel as an engine choice. Was in Berlin a while ago and rode in or drove several oil burners. The instant torque produced by these cars was super. Many in the U.S. would welcome more choices of diesels -- but they would have to pass emissions testing with the higher-sulfer fuel currently available here. Mercedes is reintroducing their diesel, but five states have banned their sale because of emission rules. I vote for the oil burner!
