Default P0741 well this is exciting

Just started getting this legendary code, great! I guess toque converter replacement is my destiny.

Please feel free to share your experiences with P0741....

Mine has 118K miles and I got the light, might have been on before that, as it appeared shortly after I purchased the car this year :-( Changed ATF and filter, recoded tip to "sport" mode, made no difference, still get an occasional CEL due to the code you mentioned, it's intermittent Seems to be triggered if I attempt to accelerate smoothly from a cruise in 5th, sometimes 4th. Planning on putting in a Vast torque converter, hopefully before winter.

Exactly what does that code translate to..just curious. Are you having major trannie shifting problems?

I got that code, cleared and dove with it for over a year, I dont advise this course of action, as driving with a buggered TC for a prolonged period of time may have contributed to the demise of my TIP trans. I noticed hard shifting on the highway, while trying to accelerate, shift flare in the lower gears. I changed mine out for VAST TC, I got another 20k km out of the trans before it packed it in, on a side note the TC that I put in was still in great shape. This is one of those codes that you dont want to see, and you should definitely act on it sooner rather than later, coming from personal experience

To answer your initial question, the code relates to the TC lockup clutch, either stuck on or stuck off, seriously kills your hwy gas mileage

The symptoms are just when in 5 on the hwy it is pretty obvious the clutch slips because when I give it throttle the RPMs shoot up, then settle back down before pulling and comes on strong. General shift is fine and smooth. Shifting from park to D gives a little jerk but I've heard this is somewhat normal. Combined mileage is around 17.4mpg, hows that?

So, is my transmission in jeopardy? I've been throwing calls back and forth with and INDY shop and another shop quoted me $1,650 for labor alone to do the TC and said that he couldn't guarantee it because the condition of the tranny is unknown.

Is the VAST upgrade worth the cost? I've heard some say that OE isn't good but better than aftermarket.

I the GIAC tune is pretty strong as this problem developed after I had the car flashed.

I wonder if you do not need to have someone who knows HOW to fill the tranny is the problem.

I have a problem with 0743, "Incorrect 4th gear ratio speed", I think.

Mine has been pulled to replace a bad engine, lost SOME fluid, and the mechs don't know how much. I don't know if half a pint is enough to cause probs. Lines are rusty. Cost about 250 to replace them, parts only.

I don't know if I am losing fluid, slowly, and that is why my tranny has some slip between shifts, or if simply low. Have got to get it topped off. Have a warranty on the car. If the tranny is gone, SHOULD be under warranty.

Slip is from 3 to 4, and if you feel it slipping, let off the gas and it will slam shift, then all is well. When it DOES slip, it will zoom from 3 to 4 thou RPM in a second or 2. Let off, it shifts, down to about 2 grand at 40 or so MPH.

Good luck with yours.

Cheers.

George

AAMCO wants just 42 bucks labor, 16 bucks per litre fluid. Well worth it to isolate the problem. It is or it ain't that.
