Default Poll: How many members have had Torque Converter Failure?

I've read about it here and there, but never seen any real statistics.
If you've had a TC failure, please list your year, engine, and miles at time of failure.
If you were given one, please list a reason for failure.
If you had mods at the time of failure, please list them, and the miles the mods had on them.
Thanks guys!

I have been running for 15-20k on stage3- which is currently 439chp (knock on wood) and haven't had any problems so far. I know this part of the car will fail with more power as they go out on stock ones anyways.

Mods make no difference on the TC failure rate.
The TCC (torque converter clutch) is what fails and it really doesn't matter if you have 200 or 700 horsepower, it will fail just the same.
I have replaced them on 96-04 A6's at various mileages and years, they won't give you a warning, just a check engine light usually.

Auditech79,
So you're saying it won't matter if I leave my car stock or mod it, I won't be helping or hurting the TCC either way?
Is this TCC failure the one that I've seen on the board costing people 3K to replace??
Thanks,
Jeremy

the code is torque convertor clutch stuck off, no power transfer. I have become very used to seeing this code pop up, I disagree about mods not affecting the TCC, with no mods I had no codes, with stage 1 no codes, stage 3- codes began to pop up occasionally, stage 3- with water/meth injection I always have this code, thus it is time to swap the TC and do the valve bodies while I'm in there. This is definitely the repair that cost about 3k, I am doing all labor myself and parts are going to run me 2k

So your stage 3 consists of what?
And If you could help me even further - with this TCC code, does the car still drive, or is it utter failure of the trans?
What's the danger/effect of continuing to drive with this code, as you say you've had the code several times?
Thanks,
Jeremy

car still drives, under normal conditions there is no issue, under hard acceleration, near full boost the trans slips. stage 3- is tuning, K04's and 5 bar FPR

So if you continue to drive the car (normally) with that code, will it eventually suffer a catastrophic failure of the entire trans, necessitating an entire trans replacement, to the best of your knowledge?
