Default Is it possible to turbo a 2.8 a6

Hi, my dad bought me a 2001 Audi A6 about a year and a half ago, and it's a 2.8. I couldn't say no to a free car, so I took it. Now I wish i could say no and kept looking, I want more power. Is it possible to turbo my engine? Or is it possible to just buy a 2.7t engine and swap it? because I found one from a 2003 the site says it fits a 2000 2.7t, a 2001 2.7t, 2002 2.7t, and 2004 2.7t

You can turbo a 2.8, but dont expect much more than , say, 3psi of boost

Swaping to a 2.7t would require lots of work and prolly everything outta the donor car .... might as well by the 2.7 car. Of course, if you get a great deal on a wrecked one, and have the whole summer to due the swap, go for it.

I agree to the tiny boost potential of the 2.8. The reason the twin turbo 2.7 has smaller cylinders despite otherwise being the same engine is because of the increase in pressure from boosted intake. The cylinder sleeves are thicker in the 2.7 to compensate for this.

I would say if you got a free car, spend some time making the thing look as brand spanking new as possible and then selling it when you find a good deal on a 2.7t a6 or s4. If your dad asks why you sold his present just tell him that you took his gift and increased your profit through smart investing and clever financial footwork

Default Supercharge

If you have enough cash available you could consider getting a super charger fitted. This would give you more power and is more reliable that a turbo charger. Here is someone who did it on a 2.8 A4

The only thing to consider is that if you are going to increase the power you may be setting your self up for some drive train or transmission issues.

PES makes superchargers for the 2.8. They are about as pricey as a k04 swap in the 2.7t but that tiny little car with a supercharger is pretty serious. Keep in mind the newest s4's are supercharged, not turbocharged.

If you want more power, then go sell your car and spend a couple of thousands to buy an A6 with 2.7T. Nothing is impossible, but fitting turbos on 2.8 does not make sense cost wise.

If you have to ask "is it possible", you don't have the technical skills to DIY and since your dad bought you a "free" car, you don't have the money to pay someone the enormous amount of money any upgrade will cost. Detail the heck out of it, make sure all maintenance is done, and enjoy a very nice ride.
