Default Power Steering Components

I am getting the whining that seems to be a topic of many posts on here. This post here (https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...power+steering) sounds exactly like my whine and the recommended clamp replacement sounds like a good start... I have a '02 A6 3.0L. My first question is should I replace both clamps on the intake line/hose AND the Banjo fitting/seals on the Expansion line? My second question is where can I get this parts (Am I forced to go to the steelership)? My third question is that my Bentley CD manual seems to show a different power steering pump/assembly diagram than what is actually on the car... Anyone see this or is my version just messed up?

Thanks everyone...

First, add some fluid. If that doesn't fix it, I would only replace the clamps. Banjo fittings don't go bad until you mess with them.

You have looked at your tie rod ends to make sure no fluid is leaking out of there, haven't you?

Default re: fluid and leak

I have been keeping an eye on the fluid for the past year and it has been rock solid. I added a little bit anyway and that made the whine go away for a while. When I did the timing belt over the summer I inspected every darn hose I could and nothing looked wet or cracked.

I figure I would drain the old fluid, replace the clamps and see where that goes. The big question I have is what clamps should I replace? My initial guess would be all the clamps from the pump intake to the resvoir connection for the intake hose; I count 4 along that route. Shoudl I bother with the clamps on the return lines and cooling line?

I would replace at least the ones on the cooling line.
Nevertheless, the visual inspection of the hose ends themselves should tell you exactly what you need to replace and what not.

Any ideas as to what sizes the clamps are? Are they all the same size?
