Power Steering Failed
So, I drove home from school yesterday and everything was great. Went inside to take a nap before work. Went out started the car pulled out and what did I hear? GROOOAAANNNN. And what do you know sitting in my driveway is a lake of fluid. I called the dealership (45 minutes away) and they are 95 bucks an hour just on diagnostic. If it is the pump it is 350 dollars for the part and an unknown amount of labor. I got the extended warranty and wouldn't you know it they only cover 65 dollars an hour on labor. I am in the Youngstown Ohio area. Does anyone know of any place nearby that may be cheaper?

If it was me, I'd refill the p/s reservoir and get it to the dealer so you can leverage your warranty. They might not cover all the labor but it sounds like they will cover the parts. Even if the p/s failed, I've always been able to drive the cars. It takes a little muscle and don't try to parallel park.

They fully cover the parts, and I can take it to any certified repair center. Its also good for as many miles as I can put on the car. I mean it isn't great, it isn't awful either. It was also all I could afford too. I just need to cut my losses on this one. But, on the bright side, the shop doesn't think it is the pump. It may just be a line that came loose. So it won't cost me too much.

my hose broke like 3 times, right next to the radiator. The fluid was coming out everywhere, because its under pressure, but its right there in the corner front/driver side... A new hose is like $290 and good luck getting it out, but a simple repair job at any shop is like $10. I took the simple repair job.

Well, just heard back from the shop that has my car. The last time it was repaired someone put on the wrong size hose, which explained the leak. And then they told me the pump is bad, because the bearing has a decent amount slop in it. I thought ok, then he dropped the bombshell. My warranty will not cover the pump. They cover everything power steering related, but the freaking pump. So the repair bill is over 800 dollars. And that means I am screwed, because I do not have 800 dollars at all. So does anyone have any advice on where to go next?

Why don't folks tell us what vehicle (year-motor-etc.)they have????
It makes a difference in many cases.
Call Force Five in Concord NH and see what they have for pumps and hoses.
I saved a bunch on new stuff and even more on used!
