Default Pressure control valves Shorting

ok so my battery light turned on the other night for just a minute and hasn't been on since. the car also has a little trouble starting for. so i assumed it was the alternator at first but hooked it up to my vag-com just to see exactly what the problem is.

Its showing fault codes related to the pressure control valves in my transmission.

2 Faults Found:
18232 - Pressure Control Valve 3 (N217): Open or Short to Ground
P1824 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
18227 - Pressure Control Valve 2 (N216): Open or Short to Ground
P1819 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

so how do i get to the pressure control valves to check them? is it something i can do myself or is it difficult? i have yet to do any work to my tiptronic yet so all of this is a learning experience for me

Default test

You can always test the solenoids at the harness on the tranny. Forget about the exact Ohm values for each solenoid , get you schematic, they all share a common negative, find that one first, then probe the rest of the pins. Use your DVO meter to do this, see if you can find one shorted to ground. If you don't, grab the other end of the harness and probe back the other way, toward the TCM.

i know my battery is going bad. it will only hold 13 volts and the car doesn't start well. i heard that a bad battery can cause a false fault code. could this be it? because the transmission runs completely fine

The battery should test at 12.56 volts in full charge. When the engine is running, it should measure around 14.4. To be sure a battery is good, it should be load tested which requires a special meter that has a resistance element in it.
