Default problem removing spark plugs

Hey.

I have a used 99 A6 wagon that's hesitating on acceleration. No codes or check engine light. I think it just needs a Spring tune up, so I'm going through all the things that I know would cause this: new fuel filter, air filter, plugs - plus new oil and filter (why not?).

My problem is that I'm having a hard time with the plug wires. I can't seem to get them off of the plugs that are in the engine block. I don't want to force them, so I'm wondering if there is a trick to removing them. Do they need a 1/4 turn or something before I try to remove them?

Sorry about such a simple question but my previous Audi's were pretty simple (an '84 4000 & '90 80 (B3)), but I know better than to "get a bigger hammer" as they say.

I have a 98 Quattro and performed a tune up about 3 months ago. Use some force on the plug wires. Grab and pull back hard. Eventually they will let go. If it's the first time those spark plugs have been changed then it's probably just stuck on there from all the heat and time that it's been sitting there. You might consider changing the wires as well. Hopefully when you do pull the plug wires off you don't see any oil in the plug wells. If so your valve cover gaskets are bad and need replacing as well.

Good luck.

Thanks.

Gotcha on the valve cover gaskets. Have the timing belt coming up soon, so I'll probably do it then if need be.

pretty easy, if you don't mind disassembling all the plastic housings that cover most of the easy to get to areas.

I'm just asking about the plug wires because a set is $150.00, and I'm trying to avoid buying a new set if I don't have to. Madridlover was right about pulling them out, I actually had to use a quick spritz of marine lube to get #3, #4 and #6 out.
