Programing key that DOESN'T have the remote functions
OK, so I've lost my husband's other remote entry key. We do still ave the key that is just a plain ol' key, but it won't start the car. Can this be programmed too? If it can, does anyone know how?
Many thanks

RE: Programing key that DOESN'T have the remote functions
is it the remote and the key or just the key if you have the remote, there is a process you can do;
search this site or audiworld and you'll find the process... or search for the member southboroaudiguy, click on his registry page and then follow it to stoney link, it will tell you there.

Do you have a 2003 or newer A6? If the keywill lock and unlock the doors, but won't start the car - it is probably the immobilizer. If so, you will need to take it to the stealership for them to program it. My dealer does this for $45, however they also only will program OEM keys, and the blank keyblade for a flip style remote is $65 (basically the top half of the remote without the buttons). If you want a real valet key....I think it is around $75 or $80 and the full flip remote is even more.
If you look at the cutslot in your key it should be silver all the way through. The eBay keys and aftermarket replacements are often times a brass color inside, and those don't include the immobilizer chips so you are out of luck.
If you have an older A6 and you can't start the car with the key, are you sure it is cut properly? Stick it into the door and see if it locks and unlocks. If so, the key itself should be ok.
