Thumbs down question on a timing belt service

its time for me to get my timing belt changed which includes the
timing belt, dampner, leveler, and roller

my local audi dealership states i need two rollers
i assume that is true correct?

i ask this becuase i am looking online for a timing belt kit i could buy which only states it offers one roller

this kit i found on ebay for my 2002 audi a6 quattro 3.0
its for 200 which is alot less then what the dealership quotes me

which is this
belt - 109.93
dampner - 165.96
leveler - 222.80
roller 103.34 each and i need two they say
that adds up to be over 600 in parts where the kit im looking at is 200
then labor is almost 800

first here is the ebay page if anyone has time to look at it and tell me if this is the correct kit or if they have used this before
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=220344404485

then is the quote from the dealership fair or outragous?

thanks for all the advice i hope to get on this

One parts store example from many, many others where you can buy your parts from:

TB - 71.80
Pulley/Roller - 51.83 (AVK engine)
Idler/Roller - 51.83 (AVK engine)
Damper - 68.52

Total = $ 243.98/ free shipping at that point

The EBay kit is $ 211, including shipping.
99.8 % feedback rating is pretty darn good, and most "complains" are about "slow shipping"... I would buy from them if no other parts needed.

The kit from BlauParts (they rent you the specials tools - $ 35 - needed for the job if you order the kit) with extra coolant and valve cover gaskets is $ 398.

If you don't need the tools, then you can check prices around for coolant, and valve cover to see what's more affordable.

The Audi dealers in my region charge $ 500 to do the TB/W.pump/T-stat job WITH CUSTOMER's PARTS.

You should do some more shopping around for all the parts/job labor charges before you make up your mind about what route you take.

good luck.

shop on purems.com

I know the owner and I trust their kits and they will stand behind all the products 100%. I ordered just about all my mods & major maintenance parts from there

As for the parts, you can try blauparts as mentioned or checkout ecstuning.com. They are all reasonable. If you are planning to have someone else do the work, any reputable shop will charge you somewhere between 5 to 8 hours to do the work. In around where I am, a typical shop rate from an European specialty shop is +$130/hr, which translates to somewhere between $700 to $1000.

As for the parts, minimum would be the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, and 2 rollers. But you should add the tensioner, tensioner roller, serpentine belt while at it.

As the others said, yup, it's 2 rollers. The tensioner pulley and the idler pulley both get done. HXgaser's list is good; you don't wanna have to go in there twice, so replace everything you can get your hands on.

I second blauparts.com. Their parts kit is just about everything you need (just the timing belt tensioner is not there), and the tool kit for 35 bucks is worth every penny to do the job 100% right. You can get the parts from here and there cheaper, but it's nice when everything you need, including the special tools, shows up in one box.
