Default Rear tailgate lift struts

I am trying to replace the lift struts on the rear tailgate of my 2000 A6 Avant. I received the parts, but I have two of the same configuration.
Question: is there a 'right' and 'left' strut, or does one of the mounting brackets on the strut get switched around to allow for right or left-hand mounting?

Thanks.

I took a look at my 2000 Avant and the lift struts are identical on both sides. They snap on toa ball type mount at both ends. Just be careful with those things and follow the directions that came with the struts, They have allot of pressure and can expand quickly if not contained.

Hope that helps

I also havean A6 Avant and will be needing struts soon. Can I ask you how much you paid for them and where you purchased? If you get these installed - let me know any tips you used. Thanks
