Default RPM "studder"

I am putting this in the A6 forum, but I guess it would apply to any car.

Sometimes (although not always), when I accellerate moderately to heavily, the rpms will rise, but around 2500rpm it will lose power, and go back down to 2000. Then from there, it will be fine, and will go past the 2500rpm mark no problem.

Any ideas?

Mine does that sometimes, i took it to the dealer because it was a jerky as well, he said they checked it out and all look good, fluids and all, he said the car’s system would tell you if something was wrong....i am started to think this is how the transmission is...but i don't want to believe that

Do you have turbos? If so I would get them checked, also check for vacuum leaks.

Not turbos... I have a 4.2. I think that the system will tell you if there is a vaccum leak somewhere, so I don't think it's that either.

Grrr....

Why would the car tell you it has a vacuum leak? I mean of course some leaks would cause a fault to show up, but not all. Maybe even most wouldn't. Is the car shifting when this is happening? Do you have a check engine light?

Well, according to a sticker on the hood, it indicates there is a vaccum fault circuit which I assumed would alert me to any such issues. The problem does not happen while shifting... it is about mid-range (like I said - about 2500rpm) in 2nd gear. There is no check engine light. It happens either in auto mode, or tiptronic mode. And it's intermittent, which makes it almost *more* annoying....

it could be a software issue so you should ask for recall data on the transmission or it could simply need a fluid and filter change
