Same ol' door panel question...
Hi all. New here. Bought a 1996 A6 Quattro last weekend. Very nice, indeed. Problem...Inside driver's door release does not open door. Have gone through the threads here regarding the removal of the inside door panel, but having no luck. The hole beneath the door pull is evident, but there is a slotted plastic piece present. The threads imply that one should be able to slide a thin tool up to the underside of the switch plate. Not so. Don't know what to do. Have tried pushing vigorously but no movement, and don't want to damage anything. Can someone please help?

I believe the issue is removing the arm rest The rest is straightforward.
There are three holes on the bottom side of the armrest that contain allen head screws. These screws move clamps that hold the arm rest in place.
The door opener is Easy - just remove the screw that is undr the plactic cover and slide it towards the rear - it will come loose and all you need to do is diconnect it from the arm that goes to the release mechanism.
There are a few small screws near the edges of the pannel.
Then the bottom pops out and you move the pannel upwards to release it from the lip at the window.
I'm in China for the next few weeks so I trying to explain from memory...
