shift cable trouble...! No one knows.. do you?
1999 A6 Avant Automatic.. 2.8L
Gear Shift slides through the gears, but car is stuck into park. Something broke!!!
I have checked the brake light sensor,, NOT IT!.... I have checked the Neutral Pos Switch located in a horrible spot next to the tranny and driver side axle(behind tranny mount)...NOT IT!!
I found the problem tonight! I don't know what this is called so I'll explain best I can and if anyone can tell me what this is called I can go buy the part(s)...
Looking up from the bottom of the car between the cats and above the tranny( between the where the rear drive shaft meets the tranny and the shifter box above the tranny.. very hard to see, but I can see the cable coming out from the bottom of the shifter area.. it looks like a rubber boot, then there is a "clip" that holds the cable in place into the plastic mechanism.. The "clip" stayed on the plastic and looks like the plastic gave way and cracked..
If I only had a diagram of the shift area?? Any one have this or point me in the right direction? Also, anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks!!!
