So how to tell quattro is doing its job in snow?
Hi, I know it may sound stupid. But this is my first awd, first quattro, first audi and first year with lots of snow around. So how do I know my quattro is helping me? Thanks!

go to a parking lot with lots of snow (not too deep though) and floor it. You will see all four tires spin or leave spin marks. Or drive down a snowy road and leave the 2wd in the dust

Go to a snowy empty well lit parking lot. Turn off ESP. You will see a yellow symbol in your TACH circle come on. Turn the wheel half way to the left or right and keep it there. Put it in first gear and punch it. You will crab walk the car and do donuts till you get bored. Turn on the ESP and all the power will be taken away from each wheel that spins, instantly keeping you from slipping.

Don't do this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crnAn-mt1Ks&NR=1 yes I did find this on AW and was shocked as I didn't realize we had open front and rear diffs.

If your car can do this (climb a ski jump) the Quattro is working.

Even with the open diffs you still dont have to get out of the car to get it unstuck. Just hit the brakes a little along with the gas. That will add resistance to the side with no resistance and allow some power to transfer to the side with traction.
