Default Some A6 4.2 questions

Ok, just joined up because I figured that you guys would know a lot more about this then me.
Car: 2000 A6 4.2 V8 Quattro

First off..... I have only been able to find body kits for the 2.2?L T A6, and it seems like everything specifically STATES that it won't fit the 4.2, which is what I have. So..I guess the question is, what are the difference in dimensions between the 4.2, and the other ones.

Secondly.....I need to replace the battery. I have looked around a little and it seems like just a normal battery will do?

Third....not really a question, but if anyone has any advice for me for things that I should know about the car I would love to hear them...

OK GUYS! Please and thank you!
~Michael~

I dont knwo if this helps but im pretty sure that the 4,2 has the same dimensions as the s6 and rs6 so you might look to kits for those models(but verify the fitment).

You dont need any kind of special bettery for any car. Just buy a good battery with atleast the same CCA's as the old one. Most times the auto parts stores will tell you which one fits but this isnt even necessary as long as you dont buy one thats too big.

Thats what I thought about the battery, but the Dbag at the auto parts store kept telling me that the battery I was looking for was like, $200 and I was going to have to special order it since they didn't stock it. I was like..uh dude, I'm not retarded, I just have never worked on an Audi....don't try to tell me that they use their own special batterys...they aren't flippin veyrons..

Can anyone confirm that the dimensions of the s6 and rs6 might be the same?

For the battery, About a year ago I swapped out mine for a Bosch and got it at pep boys for about 100 bucks. and for the sizing, I know the fenders on the a6 4.2, s6 and RS6 are all flared and wider because of that. I have also heard that that headlights from the other a6 models like the 2.7tt and 2.8 will not fit the 4.2 leading me to believe that the front end may have different dimensions... Hope that helps

Default lotsa differences

The whole car is wider. The floormats are even wider in the 4.2/S6/RS6. The headliner is wider...etc. The S6/RS6/4.2 have the same dimensions, any body parts translate across the v8 range.

edit: Oh yeah, do the timing belt if you haven't - If it has more than 70k and hasn't had it done you're looking at a potential nightmare. I used the blauparts kit and it was pretty easy. They're designed engineered for easy service.

Battery is larger than typical. Search on Autozone and Advance websites and expect to pay $125.00.

Autozone use to recommend a smaller battery. I went through 3 in a year. They wouldn't hold a charge though a long weekend.

Default battery

How much are you guys getting charged at your dealers? I'm in the northwest and going to Sunset Audi - they only charged me $84 for an oem battery, which was cheaper than everywhere else I called.

My memory may be fading, but I'm pretty sure the 4.2 and S6 are the same dimensions, the RS6 is even longer by another 2 inches or so with the battery in the boot (trunk) to accommodate the turbos. So the front fender from an RS6 won't fit on the S6 or 4.2

I'm surprised if the everything is wider on a 4.2/s6/rs6 than the others? It's a good thing I didn't buy anything for a non-V8 so far.

Default rs6 is actually shorter

I think the RS6 is actually shorter by a couple inches due to the bumpers being tucked in a little more. The track and wheelbase are the same.

193.4/191.3.

I'll have a look as I'm finally in the market for an RS6 and will be hunting one down in this coming week(s).

Edit: In the US at least.
