Someone please tell me the engine is not shot...
The oil pan needed to be replaced a couple months ago after it got cracked badly going through a dip in an intersection.
Month or so later, I started noticing some oil leakage on the garage floor. Dip stick was still showing oil above the line however. I've been putting off getting this looked at. I tried to start the car today, and some whirring when I try to get it to turn over, but nothing happens. I checked the dip stick, and it was under the line now, but there was still oil on it. I haven't had any oil light indicators, or anything out of the ordinary with the guages.
Anyone have any thoughts?

the engine is not shot.
sorry, had to say it regardless. anyways, if the motor is still turning, that's a good sign. as far as why it's not starting, is it even trying to kick over? like does it fire a cylinder every once in a while? or just nothing?

It sounds like an issue with your starter. The solenoid not operating and engaging the flywheel will make the whirring sound you describe.
Low oil isn't at all related to this issue.
