Default Sorry if this is in the wrong forum...

Hey guys, I am new to the Audi world but I have been looking for an A6 for awhile. I think I found a good deal on one and I just wanted to run it by you guys and look for pointers. It's a 2000 with a six speed, 73k miles, all the options minus nav/sat radio, black with gray interior, good tires. I have the dealer negotiated down to 10k from 12.5k. I was wondering if this sounds like a decent deal. Most I have been looking at are around 100k and a Tip for like 9. So for the extra 1K I think a six speed and much less miles might be worth it. Please let me know and if I put this in the wrong forum I apologize. Also, any tips to look for? I know that at 60k the timing belt should be changed. Other than records is there any way to tell? The dealer isn't sure but I'd really like them to check with the PO to find out. So I told them I would go Friday to pick it up. Should I show or just conveniently disappear? lol Thanks guys

Yeah I saw that but I guess I just wanted reassurance in my particular case lol. I'm a senior in college and this is my first big purchase. Needless to say I'm a little unsure. Thanks for pointing that out that. I've read that link multiple times.

that is not a bad price and yes the 6 speed would be a better deal but mileage is what matters most
I would do the deal
good luck

Yeah I think I'm going to go for it if they can tell me if the timin chain has been done. What kind of mileage does a stock clutch usually take before replacement? I know that a LOT of variables go into this but a general idea is greatly appreciated. I just don't jump headlong into things so I wanted to do a little research. One thing I can't seem to find is gas mileage. I found one thread that quotes "Gas Mileage with the 2.7t (from specs) = 16-18 city and 22-26 hywy". I realize this is subject to driving style but I drive normally. Sometimes I get on it a little getting on the freeway. My Accord gets 26 mixed and if I could get about 22-24 mixed it would also sway me towards buying an A6.

You should have no problem getting 22-24 mixed driving. I only get around 20-22 mixed but I have a boost leak and other random stuff. In the summer I was getting ~25mpg. That Is def a decent price for that car and the miles. I would def go for it. Also be warned the control arms like to start going out at this mileage. The timing belt will need to be done roughly 20k miles, so you have a while before then. The clutch should be just fine. I have 101k and mine seems fine and I have been chipped for the last ~5k miles. I personally think it is a good purchase but I have not seen it, so its up to you. GL and if you get it post some pics and have fun!
