Default Starter or ignition problem????

I have a 2000 A6 2.7 Quattro which would not start. Battery and alternator are ok. I think it might be an ignition or starter problem. I've owned the car for over 10 years and know it's issues. I don't work on it myself and I wonder if anyone had other alternative diagnosis and what costs would I expect to pay for the installation of a starter. Thanks for your input.

It could also be a bad ignition switch. My daughter's '95 woudl not turn over and I traced the problem back to the switch.

Thank you. I hope it is. The cost to replace the starter is almost $1000.00.

Does it crank over, or starter doesn't engage at all?

Default Same problem, Any insight

I have the same issue sproadically
Turn the key, all lights go on, but nothing turns or moves in the engine
Just the buzzing noise from behind the dashboard)
If I wait a while or jerk the car around, it usually works.
Checked the battery and it is still fine.

Any insight?
