Default Are stock shocks really this soft?

My rear shocks have 14k miles on them and doing the old push down on bumper and see how much it bounces test, they bounce about 2-3 times. I went over to the local Audi dealer today and did the same test on a bunch of C5 A6's, all non sport suspensions like mine and they seemed to bounce about the same. The only C5 A6's that didn't bounce that much was a 99 and an 01 S-line. This must be normal, but it seems excessively soft. Is this normal?

lol i like how u go to the audi dealer to do the bounce test haha. i have sports options and they are pretty soft so i can only image how soft the non sports are....i plan on upgradeing to a stiffer spings because i like the feel of its firm stance around corners.

I'm thinking of upgrading too. I have owned my car for about a year and never realized how floaty it was until I had to drive my partners 325is for 2 weeks while my car was in the body shop. Then getting back in my car I felt like I was in constant motion. I love the ride of my A6, but wonder what it would drive/feel like if the suspension was a bit firmer. My biggest fear is having too firm of a ride after spending a butt load of money.

I just went out and pushed on the fenders of my 2003, which supposedly came stock with sport suspension. It has 101k miles. They compress slightly and rebound to where they were. No noticeable bouncing. The shocks are good and with such a heavy car (~3900 lbs) if they were any stiffer it would be teeth-rattling on these Michigan interstates.

I've seen POS on the road with bad shocks and they literally bounce 3-4" up and down, even to the point of pulling the tires off the road.
