RE: Struts
Well,
First off, I would not just replace your front struts, I would replace everything, meaning your front struts, strut bearings, rear shocks and your springs. If you want to replace with OEM, you will just need your VIN number to get the appropriate shocks and struts and bearings. I don't know if all 3.0 A6's came with a "sports" suspension. If they did not and you replace your springs (recommended), you will most likely need to give the dealer or whomever you purchase the springs from, a "paint code" that is marked on the spring. It is usually 3 different paint marks on the coil of the spring. It will signify the spring rate.
If you want aftermarket, you should only need the year, make, model, engine size, front trac or Quattro, auto or manual trans.
This is just what I experienced when I worked in the industry, I am not sure if anything has changed.

RE: Struts
I started with the OEM sport suspension: Boring, lots of dive and roll, took turns pretty wide... but comfortable
then had H&R springs on stock shocks: looked nice, lower center of gravity so improved handling but bouncing and the springs ruined the shocks
next I added Koni Yellow shocks, which made the car handle even better, eliminated the bounced, lowered the car even more but it made the ride very rough! The car was very low, too low IMO. Not enough travel.
Next I switched to the Koni FSD/Eibach Pro Kit combo, which I run currently on my 2.7T. Retains most of the stock comfort, car sits pretty low and handlig is improved over stock.
I also had added the Sport sways and that made a big difference too.

RE: Struts
I have heard about the benifits from everyone, but I might wait and get the sways after the car is lowered and what not. I don't think Ill be driving much after I lower the car. That is when I move to CHICAGO and the car stays in STL...
