Default Stupid Question about 2004 A6 Air Filter box!

Just bought a 2004 A6/V8/4.2L and I would like to take a look at the air filter. It looks to be abit more than I expected!

Do I have to take apart the engine compartment to remove the air filter?

If your talking about the covers (keep in mind that I have a 2.7)...the answer is probably yes and they are rather easy to take off. Its just a screw with a spring. On my car there are clamps toward the back of the filter box that is hard to get to but I had to just get my hands back there and try to feel my way around.

Does anyone have a picture of that engine...it would be easier to say if I could see the engine.

Thank you for shedding some light on this. It is really tight in the 4.2L engine compartment. I can get all clamps open, except the far left back corner. Iknow I can get the clamp off, but there isn't enough room for me to get it back on[:@]. I am just going tostart pulling wires (Joking). That is how I got to know my Volvo, after the warranty had expired.

Thank you for your help. I think i found a guy in the Volvo forum with the answer to my Audi question[sm=WTFsgign.gif][sm=oopssign.gif]

LOL!!! Hey sometimes it works like that. I did the same on mine...got it off just fine but cursed a good bit when it was time to get it back on. Yeah, my mechanic allows me to watch him work on other cars and shows me a lot of stuff so I have tinkered around with mine a bit...well not really...spark plugs and ignition coils isn't much but i was super stoked to have changed those myself. A real pain in the @$$, so I guess I can see why they charge so much to work on these things. I have a really nasty sounding fan that I need to have looked at...makes the car sound like a diesel. Hopefully I can get that fixed for pretty cheap. Forgive the bad spelling.

Sorry for the "Pirate Talk"... I get going, and then the turbo spools up and I am off

It has really been a pleasure chatting with you, and hopefully I can engage you in a conversation in the future? Maybe I will keep the A6There are some pretty decentpeople who own Audi's, excluding me of course[sm=bangbang.gif]

My classification is ADHD or somethin like that... Again, it was a pleasure and thank you for your time, Sir!
