I want to lower my 99 a6, but I don't want to spend $1200 on coil overs. How can I go about it? (least expensive)

special shocks arent a necessity when lowering your vehicle, however, there are sport shocks that are made in favor of lowered vehicles, the first 2 that come to mind are bilstein and h&r, both are high quality and perform very well. hope this helps

Lowering your car without changing the shocks (so that the new shocks are matched to the different travel associated with the new, lower & stiffer springs) will result in poor ride quality. For this reason, it is generally recommended that you change both at the same time.

I have a set of H&R Sport springs and Bilsteins(Heavy Duty I believe??). Just in parts you're going to pay at least $600-$700. I couldn't be happier around these Detroit roads with a somewhat of a sport suspension..
