These A6's look good?
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum. I'm now actively looking for some nice Audis. I kinda lean towards to the A6 4.2L. I have found a couple of them on autotrader.
I'm just wondering if you guys think they are good/okay/bad deal. Most of the ones that I'm looking at have about 80,000 to 110,000 miles on them.
I understand that the MAJOR fix up would be the TB and the transmission, being that those are the ones that fail over time.
Car 1 - 2003; mileage: 76,845; Price: $10995
Car 2 - 2001; mileage: 80,585; Price: $12,995
Car 3 - 2004; mileage: 70,439; price: $13,980
Car 4 - 2001; mileage: 107,644; price: $9995
Car 5 - 2002; mileage: 81,808; price: $9875
Found another one on here and audizine...Looks very nice!
Any input would be awesome!!

They are all over priced no. 1 and no. 5 are where I would start.
I would call each of them to see if anyone has service records first. A fresh timing belt etc,etc.. would be a big bonus. Doubt it though they all seem due for the big maintenance job so add 2-3K in parts onto those stickers!!!

Thanks for the quick reply.
I would have spent a lot more time finding similar deals. I really like the A6 4.2L. Just wondering where all the good deals are.
Quick question, the major maintenances should be done at Audi dealers?

Kelly Blue Book (kbb) is a good place to get a handle on prices. The cars are worth only what buyers are willing to pay. You are looking at 6-9 year old cars and owners generally don't sell these unless there are problems and they are tired of being nickel and dimed. Or, the problems could be major and they want to dump and run. You are looking at used cars. That said, call and discuss why they are selling, maintenance, and problems. Some owners are candid and honest. Some are not. The biggest benefit of the 3.0/3.2/4.2 is you don't have to worry about turbos. I consider automatics more problematic and expensive to fix than MT6. Most posters don't say anything good about the 3.0 engine but I have one in a 2003 A4 and it seems solid, with no major problems at 85k and a TB planned for the spring. I also have 176k on my A6, still oem turbos, well maintained, and I would never receive what it is worth to me so it will probably never be for sale.

Search all the car sites you'll find some.
If you read the threads before you go to see those cars you'll at least know your sheeit when you get there. That way you can tell them about the work the car needs and negotiate your price. Or even better walk away and find a better one.
What about an A8 they have a 4.2 with an aluminum chassis and a little more room to work on the engine.

Thanks everyone.
I just found another A6 on Audizine. The car seems like a solid one. As claimed, the owner replaced the TB 30k miles ago, and the transmission was upgraded and rebuilt 20k miles ago. From these, look like the major things were taken care of. Just thinking if the car is really worth $8000, while KBB has private value of $6250 for similar mileage, of course without all the parts and options that the owner has integrated into the car. To me the car looks very clean.
