Thinking about upgrading
hello all.
I currently have a 1998 audi a4 2.8 with 174k miles. I am considering upgrading to a 2002 audi a6 2.7 with 122k miles.
What do you guys suggest?
Is there anything I should look out for with the given milage?
The asking price is 8,479 dollars.
Here is the listing: Used 2002 Audi A6 2.7T For Sale | Indianapolis IN .
Any feedback is appreciated!

my short answer is, not at that price!
that said, interior looks to be in really great shape. I wish my buttons looked like that. typical center screen pixelation.
I'm wondering what "reconditioned by our ASE certified technicians" (or close to that) means exactly. ask about the timing service...
still, too expensive
good luck

its a regular 100 something point inspection. I checked the kbb price for the car, it looks to be reasonable based on that. What price should I pitch to the dealer? Besides the timing belt, is there anything else I should look for?
Look for oil leaks, control arms condition, turbo condition, transmission service records.
There is a lot to "look for". I agree with what the guys above have already said. bottome line is that, in my (our) opinion, the car is overpriced, especially considering the potential "routine" maintenance issues that may need to be addressed (timing service). Not to mention the potential for major maintenance issues to arise (worst case, turbos).
if you have your heart set on this car, be prepared to pay close to what the asking price is. Try to negotiate a pre-purchase inspection. find an independent euro shop, preferably one that know Audi, and if you have to, pony up $100 to have them give it the once over for you, especially if you aren't exactly sure what kind of issues to look for.
I bought my A6 pre-owned, from a Ford dealership. If I had known then what I know now, I suspect I would have gone another route. not saying the service techs in a Ford dealership aren't knowledgeable, but the Audi is a whole different animal than what they are used to looking at. I had to take mine back to the dealership a few times for some nagging issues and they ended up footing the bill to send it across town to the Audi place to have a certified Audi tech look at it (I'm sure they arranged some kind of dealership to dealership deal).
While I'm not trying to discourage you too much, I want to make sure if you go this route, it is with eyes wide open
good luck

Thanks man. I'm going to have my mechanic come with me when I test drive it this week.

Im definitely going to take my time on purchasing this car, because it is sold "as-is" with no warranty included "they offer it separately for $350). Hopefully the test drive goes smooth and there aren't any major issues.
I will update either monday or wednesday.
