Here in Maryland the Audi dealer told me about $2300.00.................I'm just gonna do it myself!
I have a 4.2 though so I'm not sure about a 2.8. I think they said 18 to $1900

On my 99 A6 Avant 2.8, i had mine changed at about 75000, guy sold it casue he didnt wanna deal with it. But anyways at this point in time it seems like its a pretty good idea to deal with a bunch of issues...ie...accessory drives but i had my timing belt done from a shop for about 1500, not including some of the other work done. But on average a decent shop probably will be around that much for the timing belt. I had water pump replaced and some work to fix minor oil leaks. Hope that helped alil.
