Default Timing Belt A6

Anybody know why the timing belt replacement interval was changed from 105K miles (in previous years) to 90K miles on the 1999 A6 2.8?

Yes, just checked the Bentley service manual, it's set at 105K there.

Thanks for the responses. While shop manuals and some online info says 115K, the owner's manual for the vehicle indicates a 90K interval. I did also find another reference online for the 90K for '99 with previous years at 115. What I haven't found is why it was changed.

"Changed" in many peoples minds due to snapped timing belts and avoiding the hassles of messing up an interference engine.

IMO its better to do it earlier than later just because you don't always know how well the car was maintained before you especially if you bought used.

I agree do it early. If it snaps your car isdone.

I did mine at 110 but was recommended to do it earlier. The serpentine belt looked like it was about to break. The rest could probably had held on a bit longer.
