Default Timing Belt a6 98

During my Timing Belt exange in my a6, they didn't change the thermostat. We set the price for about 750 and i endap paying 1150!!
I got alerady 96k miles.Do you think that i'll have to replace it soon or i can wait.If so how long.
I also saw at forum that parts shoudl cost about 250-350,they charge me for OEM 580usd, i'm sure i didn't make best deal. What are your opinions.
I live in Austin TX Audi special A6 are very rare.
